Burundi Ninga Long Miles Coffee

Located beyond the reach of electricity and separated from Bukeye Washing Station by two rivers and a province border, the coffee farmers on the hills of Ninga lead a simple and isolated life. The absence of modern conveniences like glass-bottled soda is palpable in this community. Nevertheless, coffee trees thrive on the hill, taking root wherever they can, from the narrow dirt paths that traverse the hills to the doorsteps of the mud brick houses that the farmers build themselves. During times of conflict in Burundi, the farmers of Ninga have had to flee, leaving their coffee trees to hibernate until they return. When they do come back, they often find that their land has been neglected for years and must be revitalized. Despite these challenges, Ninga hill produces coffees that are complex, layered, and elegant in flavor. Long Miles Coffee is committed to working more closely with the farmers on this hill, and has recently purchased land 10 kilometers from Bukeye Washing Station to build a third Long Miles Coffee washing station. This year, traditional African raised drying tables were constructed on the land in preparation for the future Ninga Washing Station, set to be completed in time for the next coffee harvest.
